Super Happy Fun Time Update

Journal Entry: Wed Apr 2, 2008, 7:17 PM
Cake's done! Come and get it!

I think I may have gone a little overboard on trying to keep it at the same level of detail...but oh well. Too late now I suppose.

Quick Update

So I guess /po/ is happy with my cake... I've gotta admit though, I was a little disappointed to find out there already was a cake model.. oh well. I like mine better... (only because it's done though; if I had to build it again...)

Quick Update's Revenge

Journal Entry: Wed Mar 26, 2008, 12:32 PM
:iconlevelord: is back in town! (with a new icon to boot!) A few days ago, his ban was repealed! I don't know the whole story here, nor am I going to ask (because it's probably none of my business ;), ) but in any case, huzzah! Welcome back Levelord!

I don't really have too much I wanted to say in this 'update', just the quick mention above... what else can I throw in. Oh! I've started another hopefully quick model, the cake from Portal! For those of you following my line of shenanigans, I've already done two others from the game,

and

This will probably be my last one, from portal that is, as the ASHPD (portal gun) and GLaDOS were a bit too much for me to care to attempt; and the rocket turret... eh, nothing special there.

Anyways, back at school now, so probably wont be anything released for a while.

Title #27

Journal Entry: Fri Mar 21, 2008, 9:59 AM
Haha! Another short break! Silly religious beliefs give me all sorts of time off. Easter is the occasion this time, (I'm at a catholic school, if anyone in a regular university is wondering why they don't have it off), but enough bragging from me.

No real updates at the moment, I'm using this time off to catch up on a lot of work that's been piling up on me over the past couple weeks. I've decided not to do a model of the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device (i.e. the portal gun). It wouldn't be an impossible project, but there are a lot of small pieces that would come out messy and I just don't feel like going through the trouble. The only thing left from the game to actually model is the cake itself, which I may very well do!

I finally added a little global location thing on my Shoutboard; I'm a bit curious to know where my hits are coming from! ;) Anyway, that's all I've got for you guys at the moment.

Happy Easter (if applicable!)

another quick post

Journal Entry: Fri Mar 7, 2008, 2:56 PM
While mulling over my stats the other day, I started wondering how people had originally found me, so, I decided to post a little poll about it (that, and I was kinda getting tired of the other poll I had up). I know a lot of my hits have been due to the Master Chief model I did, so I'm a little curious as to how my hits are distributed.

Work on my newest model is coming nicely, its the Great Mighty Poo, another character from Conker's Bad Fur Day. I hope to get it done over spring break, but if I don't, it'll have to wait until I'm home for easter break in a week and a half (woo catholic school!).

So, If you've got a minute, drop by and let me know how you know me!

~^~^~ UPDATE ~^~^~

Ok! I finished my model of the Great Mighty Poo! You can read the description/explanation at the link.

I've also taken some better pictures of the GLaDOS Security Camera

Another one bites the dust...

...but in a good way! My Portal turret project is finally complete. I have had zero time to work on it since I finished modeling it, but thanks to a snow day yesterday, I managed to build and fix a couple little problems. Check here for the pictures as well as piece layout.

Now for some Portal-ly goodness.

~^~^~ UPDATE ~^~^~

Hehe, whoops, forgot to post a little something about the new model I quick threw together. For anyone that has seen the demotivational poster "Chances" or "Trust", then you'll appreciate this one.

dA... where did you go so wrong...

Journal Entry: Sat Feb 16, 2008, 4:36 PM
Well, I just found out that :iconlevelord: was banned for protesting dA's, in my and several other members opinion, unfair removal, of several of his works. As far as my understanding goes, most of which were judged to be of an adult nature, and thus in violation of dA's T&S.

Had these pieces really been in violation of the agreement, I would be a little disappointed about dA's strictness, but generally would have agreed with their decision (no offense to Levelord, but he did agree to the rules). BUT! Seeing as how they were not, I cannot help but be upset about his being banned for protesting their decision. I find it disappointingly ironic that an art site, a place where self-expression reins, gets you banned.

Such a sad state the world is in...

On a lighter note, I've been busy out of my dAmned mind with school work, so my newest model of the lovable turret from Portal has taken a back seat, more than likely until spring break in two weeks. The initial modeling and arranging are complete, I just need a good few hours to sit down and test-build it, make any corrections that need to be done, and finally post it.

mmm... sleepy...

Journal Entry: Thu Feb 7, 2008, 4:20 PM
Ugh, I hate being sick. I have to try to force myself to stay awake all day so I wont be up all night. But enough about that.

Just wanted to post a quick update when I saw that my hits had surpassed 30,000! It's already at ~30,110, so it must have happened some time last night. No matter, I'm just glad to be there!

Haven't had much time to work on any new models, but I have been contemplating making one of the cartoon character Duckman, from the show of the same name. Hilarious show, voiced by Jason Alexander (Seinfeld's George Costanza), about a struggling duck detective living and working in the modern world. Don't think just by my description that he's anything less than a sleazy, porno-obsessed lunatic, because that's almost exactly what he is. Definitely not a show for the kiddies.

Also, Rez = Completed!

Quick Update

Journal Entry: Mon Jan 28, 2008, 4:58 PM
Well! I had made a little time over the weekend for one project, and ended up working on another!

Recently a company called Kohnke Communications has contacted me wanting to commission a papercraft of a character that a gaming company they're working with would like built. They want it for some sort of hand out at an upcoming event as promotional material for the company, but woo! My first commission! So, while waiting to see if this pans out, I give you this: the Anti-Gravity Chocolate!

This is a simple model, that I'm surprised I hadn't done sooner. The AG Chocolate is from the game Conker's Bad Fur Day, it serves as your health. Anyway, another one bites the dust!

Hopefully I'll hear from K.C. again, but I'll keep you posted!

=== Quick Update ===

Huzzah! Rez HD has arrived! And I am DOMINATING it! so far I've got 100%/100%/100% for all 5 areas, beat direct assault (1st place), and boss rush (1st place). Mannn I love this game!

The Last Hoorah

Journal Entry: Thu Jan 10, 2008, 11:47 PM
Woohoo! I've reached, aaannd surpassed the 50 deviations mark! Go me!

And of course this wouldn't have been possible without my latest model: Chuck Norris. I spent quite a bit of time on this one, and I'm fairly pleased with how he came out. There were a few problems I had to work through, (sizing the head was a nightmare...), but I feel it was all worth it. Check it out if you've got a minute! (and leave me some feedback!)

As my incredibly short Winter Break comes to a close, I pause to look back at this past year... and snap back to reality in a cold sweat.

Hello! And a belated Merry X-Mas to all who celebrate it!, and to the rest a Happy Holidays!

Hoorah! Gregg is done! I've been itching to get him built since I finished the pieces at school nearly a month ago. Check this bad boy out if you've got a minute!

Time for me to crash, however, because its nearly 2 in the morning here, and I'm exhausted. ;) Night all!

GIR is advanced! Finished him at least, had a little free time in this haze of exams and final projects, feel like all I do is sit and study (not that my marks would reflect that...)

Woohoo! 20k hits!! 2 0 , 0 0 0!!! That's a landmark if I do say so myself. A huuuge thanks to all who have left some love in comments, messages, or just stopping by to take a gander!

But anyway! Check out GIR! The pig will be along as soon as I get some more time, only another 3 days till I get home!!!

*=*=*  UPDATE  *=*=*

I just received an email from a fellow papercraft-er, with pictures of his completed build of Majin Buu.

Francesco (aka effeesse) did a fantastic job putting Buu together, and was kind enough to send me several high resolution photo's of his work.

At least something good has come to me during this haze of exams and projects.

Also, on a side note, I finally gave in and started using deviant art's new sub-folder system for galleries. (Almost) everything is put into one of 5 general categories, though all images will still show up when the regular gallery link is opened. Check it out for yourselves!

Keep on foldin'!

You know... If there's one thing I've learned from all my years of school so far, is that the thing you're afraid of doing usually isn't as bad as you fear, it's just the waiting around in anticipation that kills you.

Quick Update

Journal Entry: Tue Dec 4, 2007, 12:12 PM
With the end of the semester rush upon me, I've had even less time than ever to work on my models, but I can still appreciate when someone completes one of my models. Chris Marlow, in fact, has completed two, Conker and the Money Wad. Who is Chris? He was one of the lead programmers for both the N64 and XBox versions of none-other than Conker's Bad Fur Day. And he was generous enough to send me some completed pictures, along with his permission, to post.

You can find the rest of the story there, I'm too lazy to re-type it... ;)

Journal Entry: Sun Nov 25, 2007, 10:04 PM
Well, I've been looking at a lot of the pages of people who have added me to their friends list, and I've noticed many of them have some sort of theme for their journal updates, either to give viewers a preview of their talents, or just to make their pages a bit more interesting.

So! I submit to you, a little something I quick threw together to make my page a bit more homey feeling. I tried to make it easy to read, no real blaring colors or complex designs just to keep it easy on the eyes. I'll probably modify it a couple times till I find a nice balance, but for now at least I've got something new.

Leave some love!

*~*~* UPDATE *~*~*

Happy Thanksgiving!

Ahh, it's good to be home! The drive was murder though; what should have only taken 3 hrs took nearly 6 due to all the traffic... and them shutting down part of the jersey turnpike. Ugh, 6 lanes down to 1, what a nightmare.

Well, Thanksgiving is upon us (in the U.S.), so get ready to stuff yourselves! mmm, I can feel myself drooling now. Maybe I'll get lucky and be able to start on the Bebop while I'm home, that would be a nice way to spend these few days off. Eh, well see.

So... just the quick update for now, I'm actually feeling a bit hungry from thinking about all that turkey... mmm, so I'm gonna go raid the kitchen. Night all!

All right! The "Hand Gestures" series is complete! The "Rock-On" ( m/ ), the "F$ck You" ( nlm ), and "The Shocker" ( llnl ) have all been completed and posted for you're (dis)approval.

So! Who wants to take my differential equation test for me Monday! I'll be your best friend! hehe to those of you who actually get to relax this weekend, see this model ;)

*~* UPDATE *~*

Since I got a surprising amount of requests, I quick made a "Peace Sign" ( /m ) hand gesture to 'complete' the set.... at least for the moment. I thought I was done, but since it's really not much work to modify the ones I have to make the new ones, I decided I might as well.

To be honest, I was surprised at how many people asked for the peace sign. I got several private notes, requests within comments, even a few emails. I've even had someone request the Spock \// hand, which I may get to some time in the future, either next week or over Thanksgiving break. Time will tell...
  • Mood: Questionable
In honor of my site breaking 10,000 hits sometime last night, I've quick thrown together a little model of the rock-on hand pose m/.

Of course, noticing how easy it would be to do, it was basically required for me to make a f*ck you hand pose too ;).

Unfortunately, I only noticed how close I was to 10k yesterday, so all I have is the screenshots of the models from 3D Studio Max, no actual builds or pieces yet ^_^U, but I'll get them eventually! The big 10^4 kinda snuck up on me, thanks in (big) part to the Master Chief model, spiking my views per day as high as 1300 at one point. The model is subject to change, the balance on it looks a little shakey.

But anyway, a big thanks to everyone who has stopped by over the past two or so months, those who have left encouragement, criticism, and even the 1337 freaks who post nonsense comments, because the internet is nothing without them. Keep on foldin'!

*=*=*UPDATE*=*=*

All right! One of them is done! Had to modify it a little bit to help the balance, but it's good now. Get the whole, albeit brief, story here, on the "Assembled Image" page.
  • Mood: Amazed
Well, I'm finally on break! Finally, a moment to relax, maybe do a little work on my models..? Nope, never mind. Forgot that everyone in this house is insane and it's impossible to get any actual work done here! Ah well, be it ever so humble..

Quick! To the Bat-Cave! Hey, if they can have an entire hidden lair, then I think the rent's can spare a table in the basement for this mess. Buu's getting there, got his head/antenna done, an arm and hand, his feet, and the big piece making up his waist and legs. The only problem, hence the title, is that I didn't realize just how big he was going to come out. I wanted to make him to scale to Mr Satan's size, and in the show, Buu is at least a foot taller, perhaps 2. So I scaled all the pieces to make him a few inches taller than Mr Satan's model, and now he's not going to fit in the cabinet shelf with the others. At least he'll look good.

*=*=*UPDATE*=*=*

Alright! Majin Buu is finally done! Don't really have too much more to add, so if you've got a minute, you can find him here, as well as links to all his various parts.
  • Mood: Hungry
I've been getting a surprising number of emails about this one. People are asking me to either make a life-sized model of the Master Chief's helmet, or explain to them how to. I'm going to try to explain why this one won't ever happen (at least not now, not from me).

The biggest problem of all is that I think people are planning on being able to wear it. It's only paper. Even cardstock would wear quickly, and be just generally too fragile to wear.

The second problem is I've already got a good bit on my plate. I'm in school, working, and have 5 or 6 other models in line waiting to either be designed, built, or both in most cases. I just don't have time to basically re-make the model, as it wouldn't be as simple as just cutting off the body. I'd have to make an internal shell that would rest on the wear-er's head, which would be a bit of a pain.

The final reason is simply that I have no idea how I would do the visor. Paper obviously wouldn't be see-through, so you'd have to jerry rig something with a really thin plastic, maybe if you could find orange acetate... even then, it'll only be curved in a cylindrical-sense, not spherical like the real one.

I really don't mean to sound harsh, this is just meant to be informational, so people don't have to go through the hassle of emailing me about it.

...on a lighter note,

Hah, well I realize its a little late to post now, but tonight at 12.30 am (ok, tomorrow morning, whatever), on Spike TV, the show Game Head will air, and hopefully be showing my model as a small part of their special on Halo 3. So if you're not already camping outside your nearest eb games because you forgot to pre-order it, (and you're able to stay up until 1am on a Monday night (again, Tuesday morning), maybe you'll happen to catch it!

I'll probably put up a youtube video of it tomorrow, assuming: 1) it's shown, and 2) the computer does a decent job of capturing it.

Wish me luck! (Also, a happy 20th birthday!)

*=*=* Update *=*=*

Aww, well that was a little disappointing. They didn't end up using it, but oh well. They had a bunch of major things like people making full body armor, doing talent show-styled renditions of the theme, etc, but the bulk of the show was about the comics and other mini-games spinning off from the main game trilogy. Eh, my 15 minutes are up :P
  • Mood: Tired
Wow, just wow. The admins are hilarious.

Some of you probably knew about this before, but for those who didn't: I had most, if not all, of my deviations in Artisan Crafts > Origami a month ago when I first started this account. After a short time, one of the over-seers there decided that none of my works were Origami (and technically they aren't, they're papercraft, but since there is no papercraft category, origami was the closest), and moved them all out to my scraps folder.

This was a bit of a nuisance, but I found a new category I was sure they couldn't complain about, and moved on. I've been putting all the "Assembled..." deviations into 3D > Misc, because they are 3d models converted into paper form. Now, the geniuses that run that category are throwing my stuff out, but not putting it in my scraps, but into the origami category that they were originally in. It's all going to be one big cycle. All I can do is sit back and laugh, because life is a tragedy for those who feel, and a comedy for those who think.

On a lighter note, someone made a digg about my Master Chief Assembled deviation, so I'm excited about that... some of the comments sound like little kids wrote them, but hey, I'm not complaining [ leave Darlene and her Paper-American heritage outta this! ;) ].

As the release of Halo 3 comes closer, I'm a little disappointed that I've yet to hear from the people at GameHead (the show that was going to use images of the Chief for their Halo 3 special), but the proof is (or will be, in this case) in the pudding, so I'll just have to wait and see.

Now that the bulk of my workload is out of the way, I hope to finally make some more progress on my Majin Buu model (WIP pic). He's been more or less done for a while, I've just yet to have the time to actually build him.

Thats it for now.

Hit the poll if you've got a minute!

Another recognition (actually several I didn't notice until just now)!

Just a short while ago I received a note from SugarShiva (.tiff), informing me he had posted an article on a website named Destructoid about my Master Chief Model (here)

After checking the article there, I got curious as to who else had posted about it, and boy was I surprised!:

Papercraft World
Kotaku.com
Gizmodo.com
Make (Makezine.com)
Gundam & Robot Anime
BoingBoing
OkFuture.net

And god knows how many forums! This would definitely account for the huge number of hits-per-day I've been getting recently. Better not let this go to my head... :D
